When homes survive natural disasters, it is because someone — the homeowner, the builder or the building code official — did something right and something on purpose to design and build the home to survive when natural disasters strike. The Federal Alliance for Safe Homes - FLASH® has made it their mission and vision to educate the public on the perils of weather and what each person can do to mitigate its effects. In their ten year experience, FLASH has catalogued this weather story in many different disasters across the United States. What they’ve learned is that the essence of the story is not the house, but the families inside and their stories of survival, recovery and lessons learned. These stories inspired FLASH and its partners to create an unprecedented education and entertainment experience entitled, StormStruck: The Tale of Two Homes at INNOVENTIONS at Epcot® at the Walt Disney World® Resort.
The INNOVENTIONS attraction, located in the heart of Epcot®, is more than 100,000 square feet of hands-on, interactive exhibits where visitors from around the globe can celebrate, inspiration and the innovations that improve their lives and expand their horizons. The weather-related experience will be located in INNOVENTIONS East, one of two buildings in the pavilion at Epcot®.
